About us

Providing quality training in the North of England for over 30 years.

SLP College is situated in the heart of the North and was established in 1991 by Sandra Reid in a large converted chapel that has been further developed and extended to provide excellent musical theatre and dance facilities.

We welcome students from all backgrounds who demonstrate high potential and passion for our courses.

SLP's vision was to offer talented students from all walks of life the opportunity to train in the North of England, regardless of their financial circumstances.

SLP College has a first-class faculty encompassing professionals from theatre and dance. Our teachers are highly qualified and specialists in their chosen subjects. Guest teachers from all genres visit regularly and bring fresh ideas and up-to-date information on the industry.

We are one of the UK's leading training grounds for young artistic performing talent. The hallmark of this success has always been the creativity and diversity of our students and teachers and the warm, friendly, helpful atmosphere that is apparent to all who visit the college. All staff, whether teaching or support, endeavour to make all students feel welcome and valued.

Mission Statement

SLP College seeks to preserve and nourish our students' individuality and creative spirit, encouraging them to develop as performers and people, accelerate their individual progress and reach their full potential.

In the vibrant atmosphere at the college, we advocate a policy of open communication creating a unique working environment and producing positive, versatile, communicative young professional performers. The wide success of our students in all areas of Musical Theatre and Dance demonstrates this. SLP College promotes British values and is committed to diversity, inclusion, equality, and working together to safeguard children and young people.

Care & Welfare

Our Vice Principal and Year Tutor are both trained counsellors and qualified dance teachers who have an understanding and knowledge of the profession. They appreciate the difficulties young people can sometimes experience during their full-time training and perhaps their first time away from home.

Students also have a day-to-day Support Officer as well as a Housing Officer who looks after student accommodation and manages any problems that may arise.

To help students develop into caring, responsible young adults with all the skills needed to have a long and varied career, we offer continual support from a dedicated Student Support Team that includes a Remedial Therapist, Dietary Advisor, Year Tutors and a trained Student Support Officer. If students require outside professional help with medical or personal issues, one of the team will make provision for this to be given and support the student with college classes where required.

Induction week offers all students the opportunity to meet their support staff and prepares them for the journey ahead. Outside agencies including our local community police officers give advice and help students understand personal and community safety issues especially important for those who may be away from home for the first time.

Academic support is available on a one-to-one or small group basis for students who require additional assistance with the literary/study skills required for Integrated Professional Studies.

We recommend that all students join a private medical scheme and register with a local doctor upon arrival. SLP has physiotherapy facilities and treatment is offered at a reduced rate by a senior member of Leeds Physiotherapy Clinic, who visits twice weekly. We uphold equality and diversity and we have a zero tolerance policy for bullying and drug taking in or out of College. If you would like a copy of any of our policies please contact SLP college direct, they are also available to all students in the college library.
