MUSICAL THEATRE COURSE STRUCTURE
Year one will focus on developing core techniques in singing, acting and dance allowing students to focus on underpinning performance skills. Class work follows a demanding structure allowing strength and consistency to develop. All first years students take part in the end of year production allowing them to demonstrate techniques developed throughout the year.
Year two starts to blend the application of techniques to performance and challenges students to push the boundaries in all areas of their training. Year two students take part in a full length in-house musical to allow students to develop the understanding of performance in practice. Class work focuses more on developing integrated practice, with master classes featuring more heavily on their timetable.
Year three students focus mainly on performance, allowing students to use all the skills they have developed from years one and two. Those who reach the required standard in the second semester will be given the opportunity to perform in our Agent Showcase at Pineapple Studios in London’s West End. Students will also take part in a fully staged musical learning to cope with the demands of live theatre. Students work on an integrated performance for their final assessment demonstrating the application of all techniques developed throughout the course. Industry professionals take regular audition classes at the college giving students up-to-date information of what is required of them in the industry.
Students receive weekly one-to-one singing lessons.
In years 2 and 3 students are given the opportunity to work with guest teachers, directors and choreographers who are currently working in the industry.
Throughout terms 1 and 2 students work with a director and musical director to present studio performances of plays and musicals. In the past these have included works by Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Duncan Macmillan, Arthur Miller and more.
Our Musical Theatre graduates have gone on to work in musicals such as Wicked, Beautiful, The Lion King, Bat Out of Hell whilst also enjoying careers in the commercial field, cruise ships and cabaret.
