Our Student Support Advisor is a trained counsellor and a qualified teacher who has an understanding and knowledge of the profession, appreciating the difficulties young people experience during their full time training and time away form home.
She is supported by a Housing Officer who looks after student accommodation and deals with any problems that may arise.
To help students develop into caring responsible young adults with all the skills needed to have a long varied career, we offer continual support from a dedicated student support team which includes a Remedial Therapist, Year Tutors and a trained Student Support officer. If students require outside professional help with medical or personal issues one of the team will make provision for this to be given and support the student with college classes and other staff members where required. Induction week offers all students the opportunity to meet their support staff and prepare for the journey ahead. Outside agencies including our local Community Police Officers give advice and help students understand personal and community safety issues especially important for those who are away from home for the first time.
Academic support is available on a one-to-one or small group basis for students who require additional assistance with the literacy/study skills required for Integrated Professional Studies.
We recommend that all students join a Private Medical Scheme and register with a local doctor upon arrival. SLP has physiotherapy facilities and treatment is offered at a reduced rate by a senior member of Leeds Physiotherapy Clinic, who visits twice weekly.
We uphold equality, should you require a copy of any of our policies please contact SLP College direct.
