About SLP

SLP is situated in the heart of the North!

Established in 1991 by the Principal, Sandra Reid in a large converted chapel which has been further developed and extended in recent years to provide excellent facilities.

SLP College is situated off the main thoroughfare in the small town of Garforth on the outskirts of the vibrant City of Leeds, approx 8 miles from the city centre. The City of Leeds is home to Opera North, the Grand Theatre and West Yorkshire Playhouse, both large touring theatres, and, of course, Leeds city Varieties which has just undergone a £9.2M regeneration project. SLP provides performers for Barneys’s Boys and Girls for “The Good Old Day”. Leeds is on a direct route to the very well known, large touring theatre Bradford Alhambra; Bradford is also home to The National Media Museum.

We welcome students from diverse backgrounds regardless of race, previous training or disability provided that they show potential for the Course offered.
Miss Reid’s vision was to offer talented students from all walks of life the opportunity to train in the North of England, regardless of their financial circumstances.

We welcome overseas students and have secured registration from the UK Border Agency.

SLP has a first class faculty encompassing Professionals from Television and the Theatre. All Staff are highly qualified and are Specialists in their chosen subjects. Guest Teachers from all genres visit on a regular basis, bringing fresh ideas and up to date information on the industry.

We are one of the U.K’s leading training grounds for young artistic performing talent. The hallmark of this success has always been the creativity and diversity of our students, staff, and the warm, friendly, helpful atmosphere which is apparent to all who visit the college. All staff whether teaching or support endeavour to make all students welcome and valued.

Following a very successful OFSTED inspection in February 2008 the College has secured continued government funding of Dance and Drama Awards, whilst still offering a limited number of SLP funded scholarship.
